MINNESOTA CIVIL WAR LETTER FORT RIDGELY SIOUX WAR 1864

Description

Fort Ridgely, Minnesota was an important post for Sibley's 1862 War with the Sioux and in 1864 a strategic post  on the trail to Fort Wadsworth, Dakota.  . An original Civil War Letter from Major Clowney, 30th Wisconsin Inf,  "  In Camp near Fort Ridgley, Minnesota, July 1, 1864" ,  " Head Quarters Garrison for Fort Wadsworth, D.T. (Dakota Territory) to General George Ramsey, Chief of Ordnance, re transmission of his quarterly returns of ordnance & ordnance stores.  Reverse w note from Major Clowney noting this is his retained letter. VG.  Major John Clowney and his men went west from Ridgely to build  Fort Wadsworth , later named Fort Sisseton. Toassist General Sully in the fight with the  the Sioux. 1p 8 x 10 ink. Edge wear, margin trimmed, reverse with ink stamp of an early collector, Overall VG. Comes w bio info.
