    my unfeigned thanks with my best wishes for

    Camp Chaffin's Farm, [Virginia], April 21, 1864. Original manuscript note on ruled-paper measuring 9.75 inches by 7.75 inches, Approximately 76 words recorded in ink, signed "Wm. A. Morris" with flourish at the bottom of the page.

    Folded for mailing, lightly age toned & foxed, trace edge wear, otherwise Very Good.

    Camp Chaffin's Farm, near Petersburg, Virginia, was part of the Confederate fortifications in defense or Richmond & the site of a significant battle in September, 1864 costing 5000 lives.
    Philip St. George Ambler (1806 - 1877), scion of a wealth & socially prominent family in Virginia, applied for a presidential pardon in 1865, avowing that he never participated in the Confederacy.
